A Bit of Nostalgia from '97

 

Back in the days of the paper-based Legal News You Can Use, in the November, 1997 (Vol. 97, Issue 11) issue, I penned a Thanksgiving poem.  I realize that we are still a ways off from turkey and football, but every day we are alive and kicking is another day to be thankful.  It is especially important to be thankful in those times when our bounty is not as plentiful as we have known.  The acorns we plant now will be the oaks of our future.  Or, as the founders of this great nation said, “Let us not hear complaint for the want of a cupboard, ‘tis hard work and sweat of brow that shall replenish its shelves.”

Be thankful for the argument, you just had with you wife;

It means that she still loves you and remains part of your life.

 

Be thankful for the listing or the sale that just fell through;

It’s just another opportunity to show the best of you.

 

Be thankful for the child, who ran away and hid;

He’ll return with open arms, and you’ll be glad he did.

 

Be thankful for the people, who make your life a mess;

It’s just a message from above that life is but a test.

 

Remember to be thankful, when life’s success does ebb;

For who can tell the beauty, before the spider spins its web.

 

Success in life will wax and wane, no man can know his fate;

Be thankful for all that you receive, before it is too late.
